Why Korea

Korea isn't just K-pop.
It's a world-class education destination.

Korea's universities rank among the top 100 globally. Tuition is a fraction of the US or UK. And for ambitious students who want to be in Asia — Seoul is the most dynamic city in the world right now.

🏛️
World-Ranked Universities
SNU, KAIST, POSTECH, Korea University, and Yonsei all rank in the global top 100–200. KAIST ranks top 50 globally in Engineering. These are not fallback schools.
💰
Dramatically Lower Cost
Korean university tuition runs $3,000–$8,000 USD per year — a fraction of US or UK costs. Combined with the Korean Government's fully-funded GKS scholarship, studying here can be nearly free.
🌏
Thriving International Community
Over 160,000 international students currently study in Korea. English-taught degree programs have exploded in the last decade. You won't be isolated — you'll be at the center of a global campus.
🎓
Korean Language Opens Doors
Even a year of language study opens doors to Korean companies like Samsung, Hyundai, LG, and HYBE. A TOPIK certification is a career asset across Asia — and increasingly, globally.
🛫
Accessible Visa Process
The D-4 language visa and D-2 student visa are well-structured and achievable with the right preparation. Korean consulates operate in over 100 countries across Europe, the Americas, East Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
The Hallyu Advantage
Korean culture — music, film, fashion, food — is a global phenomenon. Learning Korean and studying in Korea now puts you ahead of a generational curve. The global interest in Korea is structural, not a trend.

FAQ

Common questions.

Everything you need to know before you start.

No. Language center programs (D-4-1 visa) are designed for complete beginners. You start from the alphabet. Yonsei KLI, Korea University KLC, SNU LEI, and Sogang all offer Level 1 courses that assume zero prior knowledge. If you've already been studying Korean, you'll test into a higher level.
The Global Korea Scholarship (GKS), also called KGSP, is a fully-funded Korean government scholarship administered by NIIED. It covers tuition, a monthly stipend (~$900 USD), airfare, and health insurance. In 2026, approximately 2,000 graduate slots and 280 undergraduate slots were available globally. It's competitive — but with the right application strategy, strong candidates from over 100 eligible countries across Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa, and beyond have a real shot. This is exactly where the Kairos Summit package is designed to help.
Korea welcomes students from over 100 countries for both the D-4 language visa and D-2 student visa. Korean consulates and embassies operate worldwide — across Europe, Latin America, East Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and North America. The GKS scholarship is similarly open to students from a wide range of countries globally. Visa processing typically takes 1–3 weeks depending on your country. Kairos helps you identify the right consulate, prepare your documents, and navigate any country-specific logistics.
TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) is the official Korean language proficiency test, with levels 1–6. For language center programs (D-4 visa), you do not need TOPIK. For degree programs taught in Korean, most universities require TOPIK Level 3 or 4. For English-taught programs, TOPIK is not required, but having it strengthens your application. The GKS scholarship does not require TOPIK at application — you complete one year of Korean language training after acceptance.
Language center programs cost approximately $1,200–$1,800 USD per term (3 months), plus living expenses (~$700–1,200/month in Seoul depending on housing). Degree program tuition ranges from $3,000–$8,000 USD per year at most Korean universities — significantly cheaper than US or UK equivalents. If you receive the GKS scholarship, tuition and a monthly stipend (~$900 USD) are fully covered by the Korean government.
The initial consultation (30–45 minutes via Zoom) is free and no-obligation. We'll discuss your background, your Korean level if any, your goals (language program vs. degree vs. scholarship), your timeline, and which package or pathway makes the most sense for you. There's no sales pressure — if Kairos isn't the right fit, I'll tell you.
Sessions are conducted in English. Kairos works with students from all over the world — Spain, Japan, China, France, Mexico, Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, and more. Application documents are prepared in English and Korean as required by each institution. If your primary language is not English, the free consultation is a great way to assess fit before committing to a package.
Most study-abroad agencies handle dozens of countries and hand students off to junior staff. Kairos is different in three ways: (1) Every session is 1-on-1 with Ron Kim, a Seoul resident with real inside knowledge of Korean universities — not a remote agent reading a brochure. (2) We specialize rather than generalize. (3) We apply the same elite consulting standards that produced Harvard, Yale, and Columbia admits to the Korea study pathway. Your application gets treated like it matters — because it does.

Start your
Korea journey.

The first consultation is free. We'll talk about your goals, your Korean level, your timeline, and whether Kairos is the right fit. No pressure. Just an honest conversation with someone who knows Korea from the inside.
